As the challenges of modern cities change, so do the demands on corresponding (digital) infrastructures. Environmental pollution, traffic chaos and increasing resource consumption are challenges that require a swift and sustainable solution. Smart cities can be part of this solution by efficiently using modern technologies. The university city of Darmstadt in Hesse is considered a pioneer of technical innovations with its Smart City Darmstadt project, which was launched back in 2017. The Smart City data platform enables a clear presentation of various information on the current situation and serves as a central data processing centre for the city’s institutions.
